WASTE & ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

This policy explains how Men With Van UK handles items and waste from house clearances, office clearances and removals, and the steps we take to reduce our impact on the environment.

1. Reuse and recycling first

We aim to keep as much as possible out of landfill. On clearance jobs, we separate items that can be reused, donated or recycled, such as furniture in good condition, metals, wood and cardboard, and take the rest to licensed waste facilities.

2. Waste carrier registration

The law requires anyone who removes waste from your home or business to be a registered waste carrier. You can check any carrier, including us, on the Environment Agency public register.

3. Your duty of care

Householders and businesses have a legal duty of care to make sure their waste is handled by a registered carrier and disposed of properly. For business and commercial clearances, we provide a waste transfer note describing the waste and where it is going. Householders can ask us for a written receipt for any waste we remove.

4. Waste we cannot take

For safety and legal reasons, we do not collect or carry:

Asbestos or materials that may contain it
Clinical, medical or biological waste
Chemicals, solvents, oils, pesticides or liquid paint
Gas cylinders, fuel or anything flammable or explosive
Any other hazardous waste

If you are not sure whether we can take something, please ask before your clearance date and we will advise you.

5. Reducing our impact

We plan routes and combine jobs where we can to cut unnecessary mileage, encourage reusable packing materials, and match each job to the right size of vehicle so we are not running larger vans than needed.
